What is Capability Maturity Model (CMM)? Capability maturity model integration?
Organizations require maturity models to evaluate their processes and corresponding improvement programs. In alignment with this requirement, Capability Maturity Model (CMM) is one of the most popular maturity models in the industry. Moreover, it is a framework developed to describe guidelines to refine and mature mainly an organization’s software development endeavors. Due to the increased demand for capability maturity models, the CMM framework quickly evolved into Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) framework.
The CMMI framework is a process-oriented improvement program established to integrate an assessment and processes improvements for each organization functions. Furthermore, it oriented toward what processes should be implemented rather than how the processes should be actually implemented.
The CMM framework employs the following five phases to gauge the level of improvement of processes:
- Level 1: Initial
- Level 2: Repeatable
- Level 3: Defined
- Level 4: Quantitatively Managed
- Level 5: Optimizing
