Confidentiality, integrity and availability (CIA) are the tenet of information and cybersecurity. Famously known as CIA triad, these principles play critical role in balancing the security posture of an organization. In order to achieve security requirements, organizations should have clear objectives regarding the triads.
- Confidentiality: Ensures the privacy of data by restricting access through access control, authentication, encryption and related techniques
- Integrity: Assures that the information or data is accurate and trustworthy through hashing functions and related mechanisms
- Availability: Ensures that the information or data is accessible whenever and wherever needed by authorized people through redundancy, fault-tolerance, business continuity planning (BCP) and related approaches
The CIA principles are inseparable when dealing with information security programs in an organization.
