Dependent data mart and independent data mart

Dependent data marts are a subset of a data warehouse that is created directly from an enterprise data warehouse where as  independent data marts are small data warehouses designed for a strategic business unit or a department (bottom-up approach).

One of the advantages independent data marts is that it is easy to build technically and organizationally. And its disadvantage is that it needs High ETL,DBA, application and operational costs.

And similarly dependent data mart allows easier customization of user reports and interfaces. And its disadvantage is that it needs High DBA and operational costs.
