What is firewall security and how can we enforce and ensure firewall security policies?
Firewall security refers to a network device that blocks or allows certain kinds of network in an organization’s network infrastructure. Firewalls are security controls that act as a barrier between trusted and untrusted network segments such as external public networks, internal private network and perimeter networks.. Moreover, it is a critical network security device that monitors incoming and outgoing network traffic. And it allows or denies network traffic based on a set of security rules defined in the access control is (ACL). Besides, it serves as a barrier between secured and controlled internal networks and external networks such as the Internet. Additionally, it is a proxy that manages the transmission of permitted and prohibited activities in a private network.
Firewall security can be applicable in computer hardware or software and functions as an intermediary between internal network and outside network. Besides, firewalls can be deployed within the “Trusted” internal network segments to deal with insider security threats as well.
There are four different types of firewall security discussed in detailed in this blog post.
- Packet filtering firewalls
- Stateful inspection firewalls
- Circuit level firewalls
- Application level firewalls
