An IoT (Internet of Things) was a buzzword few years ago. However, it has stormed the Internet in general and the technological advancements in particular. Moreover, it is already the technology of today and perhaps even the thing of the future.
Due to the widespread adoption of cloud computing, it is being used in so many application areas starting from household appliances to autonomous cars to medical equipment to robotics to artificial intelligence (AI) and so on fields. IoT services nowadays collaborate with cloud of things (CoT) to provide better service provisioning and automation requirements. It is further leveraged with technologies such as RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), 4/5G cellular networks, NFC (Near Field Communication), Bluetooth, ZigBee, etc.
IoT is mainly a combination of two words namely the “Internet” and “Things”. The “Things” module refers to the real world physical objects whereas the “Internet” part refers to the infrastructures that enable connectivity and interaction of the massive objects. With the help of the Internet, the things or the physical objects are capable of collecting, sensing, storing, computing, transmitting, and analyzing data to provide better information about the object itself or about its surroundings.
