What is Privileged Account Management (PAM) and why do we employ Privileged Account Management?
Privileged account management (PAM) solution restricts access to privileged accounts or detect when standard accounts attempt to use any escalated privileges in an organization. Privileged accounts in an organization are those accounts with administrator role or any account that may have specific escalated privileges when performing their duties. And it deals with the management of credentials for privileged accounts, such as system and network administrators, in an organization. Furthermore, it is concerned with who can access a privileged accounts and what they are authorized to do once granted access to the organization’s systems and networks with that elevated privilege. Due to the potential damage or disaster that may occur when privileged accounts are compromised, authorizations given to these accounts should follow least privilege principles and should be used for limited tasks when necessary.
