What are rootkits attack? And what are prevention methods against the attack?
Rootkits are malwares that target operating system vulnerabilities to exploit and gain unauthorized access to sensitive data. There are freely available rootkits on the Internet to stage cyberattacks on critical systems such as firmware and OSs. Moreover, cybercriminals initially gain access to standard system user accounts through different techniques such as phishing, social engineering or password cracking tools. And the attackers use rootkits to gain root or administrative privileges. This is known as privilege escalation or elevation. Attackers will administrative privileges will much more damage than standard system users.
The best remedy against rootkit attacks is applying timely and proper operating systems patch releases to minimize vulnerabilities. As opposed to other techniques, enable attackers to launch privilege escalation activities and thereby gain administrative privilege
