Teardrop attack is cyberattack that exploits the reassembly process of fragmented IP packets in the fragment offset field that indicates the starting position or offset of the data contained in a fragmented packet relative to the data of the original unfragmented packet.
Similar to ping-of-death, Teardrop is attack of the past and is no more a threat to the modern network infrastructures and their operating systems. This is packet overfragmenation attack and makes the other end unable to reassemble the packets back to the original state. For this reason, it is sometimes known as “IP fragment overlapped”.
