Some of the differences between ETL and ELT include but not limited to:
- In ETL transformations are done on the staging server/staging area. But in ELT the transformation is done the target Data warehouse.
- ETL model used for on-premises, relational and structured data. But ELT used for scalable cloud infrastructures and supports structured, unstructured and semi-structure sources of data.
- ELT supports unstructured data. But ETL Mostly supports relational data.
- ETL tools have unique hardware requirements which are expensive. But ELT since Saas (software as a service) hardware cost is not an issue.
