A zero-day exploit is a flaw that is yet unknown but capable of exposing vulnerabilities in software or hardware systems. Besides, it is a cyberattack that targets applications and software weaknesses that are unknown to the software vendors or to antimalware vendors. The attackers find vulnerabilities before any parties involved in the target systems and quickly exploit it and stage cyberattack.
Some strategies that organizations and individuals can adopt to defend against zero-day exploit include:
- Keep systems updated/patched
- Security awareness training
- Employ stringent and intelligent security measures
